In commemorating of the 50th Anniversary of the emancipation of enslaved people in Cabo Verde in 1975, Fat Crayon is proud to launch the Amilcar Cabral Photo Tee.

Amilcar Cabral is the founder of the African Party for Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC) and leader of the fight for liberation of the two Portuguese colonies, who was assassinated in 1973 before the birth of the independent nation.

The photograph of Amilcar Cabral is taken in August 1971 in the Boké region of Guinea by Bruna Polimeni.

Bruna Polimeni is an Italian photographer. She is best known for her photographs of independence movements in Portuguese African colonies, notably a series of photographs of Amílcar Cabral, the leader of nationalist movements in Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde and the war of independence in Guinea-Bissau.

This day serves as a time to reflect on our history, honour the resilience of those who endured the horrors of slavery, and pay tribute to their indomitable spirit.
